About Us
The Rwanda Online Journalists Union (ROJU) is a non –profit organization of online journalists in Rwanda, dedicated to safeguarding their rights, advancing their profession, and promoting press freedom. ROJU advocates for journalists by addressing challenges such as social security and decent working conditions and professional development while fostering collaboration with national and international organizations.
Vision
To uphold online journalists’ rights, ensure fair working conditions and capacity building, and promote ethical journalism and media freedom in Rwanda.
Mission
To advocate for the journalist’s works’ rights, socio-economic security, and professional growth of online journalists in Rwanda by strengthening capacity, ensuring decent salary for decent work, and ethical journalism in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Goals
Improve working conditions for online journalists;
Promote diversity and inclusivity, particularly for women;
Provide training on digitalization and media transformation;
Strengthen capacity-building and grassroots initiatives;
Promoting Tripartite/ Social dialogue in the media sector;
Signing Collective Bargaining Agreement in Media sector;
Promoting Gender balance, fair salary, and safety working place in media;
Expand union membership;
Objectives
.Support the enforcement of social legislation and collective bargaining agreements;
.To maintain and strengthen unity, solidarity, and fraternity among its members;
.Promote workplace gender equality by identifying and addressing barriers to equal opportunities and fair treatment;
.To represent and protect the interests of its members before employers, employer associations, public institutions, and the judiciary;
.To improve socio-economic systems, ensuring social justice and decent work;
.To contribute to decision-making on professional journalism and management issues;
.Conduct research to identify industry challenges and develop solutions;
.Organize training on social security, labour rights, gender-based violence, and digital transformation.
